Breakthrough Dance ministry

Who Are We?

Breakthrough Dance Ministry is a team of young people ages 7 to 16 and have been around for almost 20 years. Led by Pastor Teri Mullen, her daughter Sherita as Assistant & Coordinator and Ms. Destiny as Choreographer, This Dynamic Team use their talents to set people free having ministered at several Community Events in Wards 7 & 8, Parkwood Baptist Church and the GatePost in Anacostia. Based in Southeast Washington, D.C., the Team continues to grow sharing the love of God, power of the Holy Spirit and Deliverance of an Awesome God throughout the D.C. Metro Area.  We want you to know that if God brings you to it, He can bring you Through it. For where He guides, He provides. Knowing this final thing; "That we Overcome Satan by the Blood of the Lamb, and by the Word of Our Testimony and the willingness not to cling to our lives." -Rev. 12:11

One Safe Night Ministry

Domestic Violence Awareness

On October 10, 2005, my cousin, Yvette Cade's, ex-husband went to her place of employment and brutally attacked her by setting her on fire. This lone cowardly act set into motion a resolve in our family unparalleled to this point. Yvette's Sister, Shereen Cade Jackson was thrust into the spotlight to be a voice for the voiceless. We found this to be greater than all of us. In the midst of a great tragedy, God birthed a passion within us to Stand for the weak, controlled, marginalized, abandoned, forsaken and in some cases forgotten. Each year we host no less than two events addressing issues surrounding domestic violence. It is a time where clergy, legislators, law enforcement, advocates, survivors, family and friends come together finding strength to continue this fight. Shereen Cade Jackson is the founder and Spearheads "One Safe Night Ministry" which keeps the Light on so that everyone can find their way.

From Victim to Survivor

Know the Signs of Abuse

Abuse can be defined when one person manipulates, coerces, threaten and or intimidates another, often using power and control to isolate and prohibit them from healthy growth and development. This page give a snapshot of some of the signs one may be in an abusive relationship as it identifies various types of abuse.

  • Digital - Digital Abuse occurs when someone is using Cyberspace and technology to threaten, coerce or bully another. Some of the signs to look out for includes: Stalking behavior such as stealing ones passwords constantly monitoring ones activities, trying to control their communications and/or friends on-line, tagging someone with unflattering posts, sending unwanted pictures and demand they do the same and  repeatedly insulting one on their status updates.
  • Emotional - Is often seen when one makes another feel that they are worthless through insults and demeaning language. Being possessive and acting jealous, isolating one from family and friends, threatening to harm a person, their pets, family or possessions, humiliation and withholding affection.
  • Financial - One may be in a financial abusive relationship when their partner or significant other steals from them, maxes out their credit card, demands one's paycheck and limit their access to monies they have earned. Also freezing assets putting one on a restrictive budget.
  • Physical Abuse - Occurs when one pushes, shoves, strikes or confines a person, not allowing or limiting them to going out in public. It may include hair pulling, smacking and/or kicking, or forcing one to use drugs or alcohol. Depriving one of meals or sleep and reckless behaviors are considered Physical abuse.
  • Sexual Abuse - When one uses sex as a weapon, forcing one to engage in unwanted sexual relations, deviant relations and/or using bondage and punishment to humiliate another.
  • Verbal Abuse - Words Matter. When one uses their words to demean, intimidate or bully another into actions that they would not partake on their own. When one is always the butt of a joke or insulted because of their size, shape, skin tone, education, talents, skills or limitations.

We are all created in the image and likeness of God.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." - Psalm 139:14

Human Trafficking

Exploitation of Our Youth

We also address issues surrounding Human Trafficking.  According to the CNN Freedom Project,  Human trafficking is the third largest international crime industry (behind illegal drugs and arms trafficking). It reportedly generates a profit of $32 billion every year. Of that number, $15.5 billion is made in industrialized countries. In the U.S. the average age  of children who run away and enter the sex trade is 12-14 year old. These girls were often abused and exploited at home.  According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Trafficking primarily involves exploitation which comes in many forms, including: forcing victims into prostitution, subjecting victims to slavery or involuntary servitude and compelling victims to commit sex acts for the purpose of creating pornography. Human Trafficking is not only affecting females. There are statistics that suggests that as many as 36 -45 percent males are caught in this vicious cycle as well.
